Ryan T. Barrett, MD

Expanding patient access to specialized medical & surgical corneal treatment.
Dr. Barrett is a board certified, fellowship trained ophthalmologist with advanced specialized surgical and medical training on corneal conditions, standard and complex cataract surgeries, and refractive surgery including LASIK and PRK. He is committed to helping his patients achieve their best possible vision with a sincere and compassionate touch.
Dr. Barrett graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He completed Medical School at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington, before interning at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, California. For his ophthalmology residency, Dr. Barrett served the Houston, Texas, Baylor College of Medicine, where he was the Chief Resident in his final year of training. Dr. Barrett then completed the prestigious Lindstrom Fellowship in Minnesota, an additional year of intense training dedicated to advanced surgical techniques in cataract surgery and refractive surgery as well as the medical and surgical care of corneal conditions such as Fuchs’ Dystrophy, Keratoconus, corneal scars, and many others. He performs all types of corneal transplantation, including DMEK, DSAEK, and PKP depending on his patients’ needs, and is constantly learning in order to stay at the forefront of new techniques and treatments.
Dr. Barrett joined the Hollingshead Barrett Eye Center team in 2016 with the primary focus of expanding our patients’ access to specialized medical and surgical treatment for corneal diseases and conditions, as well as providing refractive and cataract surgery. Dr. Barrett also speaks Spanish, and he is the medical director of the Envision Eye Bank of Idaho.
When not with patients, Dr. Barrett enjoys road cycling, downhill skiing, coaching his children’s soccer teams, fishing, hiking, reading, and above all spending time with his wife and their four children.
