Who should perform YOUR LASIK?
There are two very important considerations you should keep in mind when making this decision:
Most providers have embraced the superiority of "all-laser" LASIK technology. However, some eye surgeons still use a microkeratome (a bladed mechanical instrument) to perform the first step of the LASIK procedure. Clinical studies confirm that "all-laser" LASIK provides better LASIK safety, better LASIK precision and better LASIK results, so you should confirm that your eye surgeon uses the technology you prefer to perform your procedure.
SKILL & EXPERIENCE
The skill and experience of the eye surgeon should be another very important factor in your decision. A LASIK surgeon who has had more opportunity to perfect his technique is likely to be more skilled than a surgeon who has had less experience with the procedure. More skill means better outcomes, so ask how many LASIK procedures the surgeon has performed. The more the better, but the number should be in the thousands.
